The Ministry of Education is discussing the possibility of renaming the school subject OBZH (basics of life safety) into “Fundamentals of Security and Defense of the Motherland,” said the head of the department, Sergei Kravtsov, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“This subject includes a basic military training course, but it is wider. <…> We understand that time today, among other things, tells us that this course needs to be developed,” the minister stressed. According to him, the department “discussed both with the pedagogical community and with teachers.” “We see that the guys who fought in the special military operation zone, like no one else, they can come and tell the truth,” Kravtsov said.
According to the head of the department, the modern program of life safety lessons is wider than the course of initial military training, since it includes the rules for first aid, actions in case of various kinds of disasters, etc.
The course of initial military training will appear in schools in the coming academic year. The Telegram channel of the Ministry of Education said that classes would be extracurricular. At the same time, Kravtsov clarified that the course would be held as part of the OBZh, which is a compulsory subject.
