A British billionaire, French deep-sea veteran and founder of an American company that organizes excursions to the wreck of the Titanic, may be aboard a tourist bathyscaphe that has gone missing in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is reported by Sky News.
It is noted that we are talking about the British billionaire Hamish Harding, who owns the Action Aviation company for the sale and operation of aircraft.
The channel also reports that French submarine pilot Paul-Henri Nargolet, as well as the head and founder of OceanGate Expeditions, Stockton Rush, were on board the ship.
Five people are on board, according to the US Coast Guard. The search and rescue operation involved two aircraft and a research vessel.
The TV channel clarifies that contact with the underwater vehicle was lost approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes after the dive. At the same time, the bathyscaphe should send a signal every 15 minutes, meaning that all systems are working properly. As the TV channel notes, the device has not given such a signal for the last seven hours.
We add that the missing device belonged to OceanGate Expeditions. The company sells excursions to the Titanic for $250,000.
