The incident occurred around 07:00, and the driver of the bus involved in the accident was apprehended by the Police.
The deceased was identified as Jorge Aquiles, 77, a native of the La Unión parish of the Santa Ana canton. The bus that hit him and killed him is from a cooperative based in that Manabi canton.
Miguel Palacios, agent of the Municipal Public Transit Company of Portoviejo, Portovial, pointed out that they had a report of a traffic accident inside the land terminal of this canton, and where, according to witnesses, it was indicated that a Ayacucho cooperative bus was involved in the accident.

After the accident, the driver of the disco 23 bus was apprehended for investigations, according to Palacios.
Achilles was known in the terminal because in recent weeks he was selling threads in that place, and he was leaning to walk on a wooden cane, which was also destroyed after the accident.
In a video that circulated after the event, it was observed how the bus crushed the older adult.
Andrés Rivera, agent of the Traffic Accident Investigation Office of the Ecuadorian Traffic Commission (OIAT), said that the bus driver would be transferred to a flagrante delicto hearing.
“His remains will be transferred to the Manta forensic center, according to the authorization made by the fiscal agent on duty,” Rivera said about the fatality of the accident. (I)
