The Global Economy and Business Research Center of the Association of Exporters (CIEN-ADEX) reported that Peruvian imports reached US $ 41,479 million between January and October of this year, which represented a growth of 44.5% compared to similar period of 2020, explained by the recovery of the national economy and international.
In this regard, Carlos Adriano Pérez, head of economic studies at CIEN-ADEX, pointed out that the registered figures respond to the low comparison base of last year when COVID-19 began. However, the higher prices due to the inflation foreign exchange rate and the increase in the exchange rate, which is currently at historical levels.

In detail, if the registered in October is compared, Peruvian purchases from abroad increased by 33.9% compared to the same month of 2020, reaching US $ 4,517 million thanks to the good performance in all sectors, highlighting the acquisitions of the metalworking sector and chemicals. According to the CIEN-ADEX report, between January and October the largest imports were from the metalworking sector (US $ 14,286 million), concentrating 34.4% of the total with an increase of 45.5% compared to the same period of 2020. He highlighted the demand for cell phones for US $ 1,120 million, while the most dynamic products were motorcycles and trimotos with US $ 272 million and an increase of 146.3%.
All sectors registered increases with the exception of textiles (-0.4%), fishing (-3.4%) and mining (-4%). In blue, chemical (35.2%), agriculture (29.3%), hydrocarbons (103.2%), iron and steel (82.9%), non-metallic mining (79.6%), confecciones (8.2%), wood (55.8%) and various (25.2%).
In terms of origin by continent, Asia was the main supplier region with 42.3% of the total and an increase of 50.9%. At the country level, he highlighted China with 28.3% concentration. The star product was the cell phone with an increase of 35.4%.
