De facto, there is no chance of extending the “grain deal”, because what was promised to Russia has not been done. Such a statement in an interview with Izvestia was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
He explained that the deal involves action by the contracting states. So, part of the case was done, and the second part, concerning Russia, was never completed, Peskov noted. Thus, there are no prospects for a deal and there are no grounds for its extension, because the promised is not being fulfilled.
Recall that the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was signed on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, involves the export of Ukrainian grain, food and fertilizer across the Black Sea from three ports.
As part of the deal, there is also a second part – a Russia-UN memorandum, designed for three years. It provides for a number of measures, such as unblocking Russian exports of food and fertilizers, reconnecting Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT, resuming supplies of agricultural equipment, etc. The Russian Federation claims that this part of the package agreement has not yet been implemented.
