“Alternatywy 4” is a cult comedy series from 1983 directed by Stanisław Bareja. It tells about the conflicts between the inhabitants of one of the Warsaw blocks, whose address is included in the title of the production, and the host of the house – Stanisław Anioł. This one seems to have one overarching goal in life – to make their apartment in Ursynów a nuisance.
It wasn’t Roman Wilhelmi who was supposed to play the Angel in “Alternatywy 4”. He wasn’t even a second choice
Roman Wilhelmi played the role of the host of the building – Stanisław Anioł. Throughout the series, he kept under surveillance and even intimidated the residents of the block at “Alternatywy 4”. The hero is constantly looking for a way to success, attributes merit to himself, blackmails and manipulates people. Today, no one can imagine that the role of the Angel could have been played by someone other than Wilhelmi. However, initially Bareja bet on another actor.
In 1980, Stanisław Bareja hired Ludwik Pak for the film “Miś”. It is he who says the words “Zdzisław Dyrman, basically!” in the film. Like ludwikpak.pl, the cooperation between the creators was so fruitful that the director wanted to cast the actor in the main role in the series “Alternatywy 4”. Even though test shots with Pak had already been made, Bareja gave up on the idea.
The addiction ruined his career. He died suddenly at the age of 58
Ludwik Pak disappeared for a few days and gave no sign of life, which was proof enough that the director could not rely on him. He decided to offer the role to Stanisław Tym, but the role was eventually given to Roman Wilhelmi. Shooting for the series was interrupted by the state of war, when Pak was supposed to play in the production of Balcerek, but he was replaced by Witold Pyrkosz.
On the Viva.pl portal, we read that the reason Pak was removed from the roles in “Alternatywy 4” was his progressive alcoholism. The actor has played in over 30 films and many theatrical productions. His last big role was Mr. Peresada in Edward Stachura’s adaptation of “Siekierezady”. The artist spent the last years at the Veteran Actor’s Home in Skolimów. He died suddenly on December 7, 1988 in Warsaw.
