NATO members failed at a ministerial meeting in Brussels to agree on alliance defense plans in the event of a Russian attack. Reuters sources told about it.
One of the interlocutors accused Turkey of failing to reach agreements. Another source noted that the Turkish side blocked the coordination of documents due to geographical wording, including those relating to Cyprus.
An unnamed US official told Reuters that although the regional plans were not officially approved today, they could be part of a series of final documents for the Vilnius summit in July.
The agency writes that for the first time in several decades, NATO decided to prepare defense plans in case of an attack by Russia. So, earlier the alliance did not see the need for this, and also did not feel a real threat from post-Soviet Russia. However, now, according to the chairman of the NATO military committee, Admiral Bob Bauer, NATO must be prepared for the fact that a conflict may arise at any moment.
