The Sovetsky District Court of Novosibirsk sentenced the former head of the Siberian Branch (SB) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Alexander Aseev, to four years of suspended imprisonment under an article on fraud on an especially large scale, TASS reports.
As the agency notes, Aseev headed the SB RAS from 2008 to 2017. According to investigators, in 2009-2015 he persuaded the members of the Presidium of the SB RAS to repair the department at the expense of the funds and provide him with a cottage for official use. Investigators believe that at the same time Aseev did not need housing.
“After carrying out costly repairs, the defendant signed contracts for the rental of this dwelling. Subsequently, by submitting forged documents to the Sovetsky District Court of Novosibirsk, he privatized the property in favor of his daughter, ”the prosecutor’s office of the Novosibirsk Region reported.
According to law enforcement officers, by his actions, the academician caused damage to the budget in the amount of 45 million rubles. The scientist himself called the criminal case initiated against him harassment.
