The American company Raytheon Technologies, the developer of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system, has decided to deliver five more such systems to Ukraine by the end of 2024, CEO Greg Hayes told The Wall Street Journal.
According to Hayes, the air defense system “showed high efficiency” in Ukraine. The publication writes that Ukraine currently has two complete Patriot complexes, which include a launcher, a radar and a command post.
Raytheon manufactures the main radar and guidance system for Patriot. Patriot missiles are manufactured by Lockheed Martin (the developer of the F-16 fighter jets and HIMARS anti-aircraft systems) at its plant in Arkansas, and the engines for them are assembled by Aerojet Rocketdyne.
According to Brenda Davidson, vice president of the PAC-3 program (an upgraded version of the Patriot that entered service in 2001), Lockheed Martin is also reaching out to Patriot customers and users like Poland to produce parts. “Demand continues to grow,” she said.
