The mayor of Nova Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontiev, said that the water had almost completely left the city, which was flooded after the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. He announced this on the air of RBC.
According to Leontiev, the positive trend continues: more and more water is leaving every day. In Novaya Kakhovka, they have already started draining the basements, he added.
Leontiev also said that there is electricity almost everywhere in the city, and sewerage stations are being restored there. At the same time, the situation in the settlements downstream still remains more difficult.
The mayor specified that more than 900 people had been evacuated. People who were unable to leave are receiving food and medicine, Leontyev said. He suggested that within a week it would be possible to restore “more or less normal life activity.”
Recall that the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on June 6, which led to an uncontrolled discharge of water. Russia and Ukraine blame each other for what happened. By the morning of June 10, according to Ukrhydroenergo, the Kakhovka reservoir had lost more than a third of its water.
