A report by Stanford University and the Wall Street Journal warns that Instagram is the main platform used by pedophile networks to promote and sell content depicting the sexual abuse of minors.

Criminals of all kinds have made social networks a channel for attracting potential victims. Defamation, identity theft, fraud, abuse, blackmail, pornography are just some of the illegal crimes that are forged from Internet sites where children, young people and adults spend a large part of their time.

Judicial control in cyberspace remains a complex task in the world. In the case of Ecuador, computer crimes are criminal, which, however, are on the rise according to information from the State Attorney’s Office. Identity theft, fraudulent appropriation, contact for sexual purposes, access without consent, illegal interception of data are most often reported.

Jail sentences have failed to curb computer crime in the country, where complaints originate from most investigations into this segment. More ex officio actions are needed that require technology and specialized personnel immersed in social networks to stop pedophiles, rapists, fraudsters and other criminals in the virtual space who harm society in time.

In Mexico there is a Cyber ​​Police, which monitors and conducts ‘patrols’ via the Internet. By analyzing the creation of similar departments or the specialization of uniformed officers for these functions, greater efficiency in the prevention of computer crime could be achieved.

Although banks and other public entities constantly publish security on their virtual channels, they must always be updated.

Social networks or artificial intelligence, which are part of modern technologies, should not be demonized, but more work should be done on preventive measures that suit everyone. (OR)
