In a society with serious problems of unemployment, drugs, desertion, truancy and insecurity, among other structural problems, urgent measures need to be taken and where artistic management in the community is crucial as a powerful tool for the reconstruction of the social fabric.
Interdisciplinary work becomes necessary and this is the importance of art in all its manifestations in the community. In my administration at the Casa de la Cultura del Guayas, we changed the vertical artistic management to the artistic management of the community, carrying out a series of actions and activities that allow us to strengthen ourselves as a community and feel proud, prevailing over the role of women in cultural development and the community.
Vertical artistic management of the creative process is otherwise a classic way of managing culture and art, the most widespread, with a very clear distribution of tasks, in which the community is only a consumer.
From artistic community management, we strive for social transformation that involves the community. Our turning point is our Art for a Culture of Peace program, with three projects that go towards non-violence, interculturality and intergenerationalism, where art plays a fundamental role in the intervention in public space so that it becomes a place of identity, relationship and history, i.e. social relationship and collective construction for social transformation. Public space is a place where collective imaginaries can be generated, and artistic languages are ideal for this.
In this year, 2023, we intend for the community to be the recipient of the benefit and artistic proposal generated by the creative process through our areas of added value, cast and our artistic services. Let art be a natural space in which educational activities are carried out, where the values and principles in which we work are crystallized, such as the development of creativity, thinking, respect, awareness, empathy, collaborative work, among others.
Our activities seek to meet people to develop skills such as solidarity, cooperation, teamwork, mutual support, community work and social transformation. The role of the artist as an educator, agent of community change will be as a facilitator, to give a voice to the participants and accompany them in the process of artistic creation, in order to cause a strong effect on the people and communities of which they are a part, to improve the concept they have of each other and of themselves, through positive cultural practices .
I invite you to reconsider ourselves as human beings sensitive to space and become aware that public places are common areas, configured for life with the intention of reaffirming the quality of life of citizens, where art takes a leading role in plans for local development from creative, to education, creating a sense of relevance , identity and as a tool for social transformation.
