In Guápulo there were landslides and rock falls. The ECU911 recorded images in different sectors with long lines of cars waiting to move.

An afternoon full of heavy rain and an electrical storm complicated traffic in Quito. In different sectors, congestion forced drivers to wait for long minutes without being able to advance even a meter of distance.

Traffic was hampered by the rains that caused the accumulation of water in homes and commercial establishments in various areas. Around 4:00 p.m., the Quito Fire Department, the Metropolitan Transit Agency and the Metropolitan Mobility and Public Works Company (Epmmop) attended an emergency reported due to damage to the enclosure of a house in the Guápulo sector, in Ninahualpa and Manuel Criollo streets.

Afternoon of rain and thunderstorm is registered in Quito

This event caused a landslide and rocks to fall on the road where the vehicles were traveling. As a result of this, a long congestion was unleashed on Simón Bolívar avenue, in a north-south direction, and its surroundings, affecting drivers. In addition, in the same area, there was another landslide on Avenida De Los Conquistadores and Ninahualpa.

Traffic was restricted at various points, while the road cleaning tasks were being carried out. After three hours of intervention, around 7:30 p.m., the AMT reported that the place was enabled.

The surveillance cameras of the Integrated Security System ECU911 captured that in other sectors of the city there was also a heavy vehicle load, such as at the entrance to the San Juan tunnels, in the center; on Mariscal Sucre and Fernández Salvador avenues, to the north; at the entrance to Carapungo, at the height of Luis Vaccari avenue; in The Y; in the ring of El Ciclista.

Other factors that influenced the vehicular chaos have to do with the fact that from 7:00 p.m. the proclamation for the festivities of the 487 years of the Quito Foundation began, the event was held in the Plaza de San Francisco, in the historic center.
