In Russia, there is an increase in the incidence of resistant tuberculosis. This was announced by the immunologist, general director of the contract research company “KEG”, candidate of medical sciences Nikolai Kryuchkov.
He said there are more cases of multidrug-resistant TB, for which there may be no alternatives for treatment. The drugs of higher ranks used in these cases are “much more toxic, worse tolerated, leave consequences.” “Different problems are already appearing there, there is an effect on the nervous system, on the liver, on the kidneys, on the hematopoietic tissue. And the courses are long, many months, ”the doctor added, he is quoted by Ura.ru.
In his opinion, the coronavirus pandemic could have affected the increased development of tuberculosis. “During COVID-19, both planned and medical care, and the appealability of a number of other diseases decreased, the problem of tuberculosis was paid less attention than it should have been, since there was a choice. As a result, the infection received an additional opportunity, ”Kryuchkov suggested.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, in 2022 there was an increase in the incidence of tuberculosis in Russia in 44 regions. Tuberculosis was detected in an active infectious form in the Belgorod, Voronezh, Kostroma, and Rostov regions.
