The Arriaga Theater in Bilbao is hosting today the 16th edition of the Uninterrupted Reading of Classics of Euskaldun Literature organized by the euskaltegi Bilbo Zaharra and which this year has chosen the novel ‘Kristalezko begi bat’ (A glass eye), by the Biscayan writer Look Agur Meabe

The initiative is taking place in the foyer of the Bilbao theater this Thursday, June 8, continuously from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and can be followed live on eitb.eus.

In addition to celebrating this year the 50th anniversary of the creation of this Basque language teaching center, located in the Old Town of Bilbao, the euskaltegi takes advantage of this initiative to conclude the academic year.

The Lekeitiarra writer herself has been in charge of opening the act, reading the first lines of her story. After her, it is estimated that around 200 people will take turns uninterruptedly throughout the morning before the microphone and the lectern placed in the municipal theater.

‘Kristalezko begi bat’ (A glass eye) was published in 2013 and the story can be considered a novel attached to the autofiction genre, although the author herself prefers to define it as “self-imitation”, she has joked.

Miren Agur Meabe (Lekeitio, 1962) has written dozens of works of poetry, narrative and, mainly, children’s and youth literature. Since April, he has been a full member of Euskaltzaindia.

In previous years, the stories ‘Gero’ (Axular), ‘Peru Abarka’ (Mogel), ‘Haur besoetakoa’ (Mirande), ‘Hamaika pauso’ (Saizarbitoria), ‘Zergatik panpox’ (Arantxa Urretabizkaia) have been chosen for reading. ), ‘Obabakoak’ (Atxaga), ‘Harri eta herri’ (Gabriel Aresti), ‘Narrazio Guztiak’ (Sarrionandia), ‘Metamorphosia’ (Franz Kafka), ‘%100 Basque’ (Itxaro Borda), ‘Kresala’ (Txomin Agirre), ‘Otto Pette’ (Anjel Lertxundi), ‘Ipuin hautatuak’ (Mariasun Landa) and ‘Linguae Vasconum Primitiae’ (Beñat Etxepare).
