If Kyiv is not provided with real security guarantees at the NATO summit in Vilnius, some countries of the alliance may take action “on a case-by-case basis” and deploy troops in Ukraine. This was stated by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, writes The Guardian.
He added that Poland is “very interested in providing concrete assistance” to Kyiv, and the Baltic countries may follow. Rasmussen called the sending of alliance troops one of such support measures.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO provides full security guarantees only to its full members, although the issue of guarantees for Kyiv will be included in the agenda.
Recall that Kyiv applied to join NATO in September 2022. Ukraine also proposed its draft security guarantees. Among the key guarantees were investments in the military-industrial complex of Ukraine, the transfer of intelligence data to it and the training of the Armed Forces of the republic under the auspices of the EU and NATO. The United States, Great Britain, Canada, Poland, Italy, Germany, France, Australia and Turkey should act as guarantors.
