The EU countries will soften some of the proposals of the European Commission on the new, 11th, package of sanctions against Russia. According to Bloomberg sources, the ban for ships with sanctioned goods to enter the ports of the EU countries will be partially abandoned.
In addition, restrictions relating to the transfer of goods from ship to ship and ships that disable navigation systems will provide for a delay of 30 days. The agency writes that a number of EU members, including Germany, fear that countries helping Russia to circumvent sanctions will be included in the sanctions lists. They would prefer to compile lists of such companies first.
The requirements of Greece and Hungary are also considered. The authorities of these countries want some of their companies to be removed from the Ukrainian black list of “war sponsors”.
It is possible that a new sanctions package will be agreed next week, adds Bloomberg.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has previously argued that the new package of sanctions against Russia will focus on circumventing earlier restrictions.
