Moscow denounced the agreement with Helsinki on additional military assessment visits, the changes came into force on June 1. It is reported by RBC with reference to the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
The agreement between Russia and Finland was concluded in 2000, it provided for joint military visits. The last time inspections were carried out in Russia was in 2020. Prior to this, Finland conducted inspections at Ostrov in 2016, Besovets in 2017, Sputnik in 2018 and Luga in 2019. In turn, Russia visited an airfield in Finnish Karelia in 2017, 2019 and 2021, and Lapland in 2016 and 2018.
The agreement supplemented the Vienna Document of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) of 2011 – it provided for the exchange of information between the countries of the association about their armed forces, defense planning and military budgets; it also fixed a system of mutual notifications and inspections.
In March of this year, Moscow refused to provide data to the OSCE on the armed forces due to the fact that the Czech Republic suspended the implementation of obligations towards Russia, and Ukraine refused to participate in the annual exchange of military information (AEMI).
