There are a number of foods that interfere with productivity, and removing them from your diet can significantly increase your productivity and improve your mood at work and at home. Sergey Lopatin, a gastroenterologist, told Doctor Peter about this.

So, an excess of sugar, simple carbohydrates, preservatives and fats in the diet not only does not charge the body with energy, but also takes it away. As a result, after eating a person feels tired and drowsy. To increase productivity, you can revise your diet by removing a number of products from it.

First of all, it’s fast food. Burgers, french fries, pizza and other similar dishes are not only very high in calories, but also contain too many saturated animal fats and simple carbohydrates. At the same time, they practically do not have fiber, which would help speed up the digestion process. As a result, the body’s resources are spent on the digestion of food. A person feels a breakdown and wants to sleep.

Sweet foods – chocolate, muffins, cookies – contain a large amount of simple carbohydrates. When ingested, they are almost instantly broken down into glucose. In moderation, such food does give energy and stimulate brain activity, but this does not last very long. Less than an hour after eating, blood sugar drops rapidly. The person feels exhausted and wants to eat again.

Jumps in blood glucose with a subsequent decline in strength cause not only sweets, but also sugary drinks. An excess of coffee in the diet can also take away energy. The fact is that caffeine replaces adenosine in the body, a biologically active substance that regulates the feeling of drowsiness. When adenosine reaches a certain level, the body, as it were, receives a signal about a lack of energy and the need for rest. In order for this signal to pass, adenosine must interact with special receptor proteins.

The problem is that caffeine is similar in form to adenosine, which is why receptors often confuse the two. Coffee takes a strange place and does not give the brain a signal to rest. At the same time, adenosine continues to accumulate in the body, and as soon as the effect of caffeine weakens, this immediately makes itself felt with a powerful surge of fatigue. Thus, the stimulating effect of caffeine is largely artificial. Excessive addiction to this drink will sooner or later turn into a constant feeling of overwork.

A sufficient amount of protein in the diet is a prerequisite for maintaining productivity. One of the main sources of this substance is meat. However, it should be borne in mind that not every variety of the same will be well absorbed by the body. For example, it is better to limit the amount of red meat in the diet – literally up to a couple of times a week. Beef, lamb and pork are high in fat. The combination of a large amount of proteins and fats makes them extremely difficult to digest, which is why the body does not have energy for other activities.
