Tensions between the US and China could escalate into conflict. According to TASS, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger expressed this point of view in an interview published on Friday with The Wall Street Journal.
“I believe that China, given the power it has, is a dangerous potential adversary. [США]”, — quotes the publication of the words of Kissinger, who turns 100 on Saturday. “I think it could turn into a conflict. We have two societies with global historical views, but different cultures that compete with each other,” Kissinger said.
The ex-secretary of state expressed the opinion that the reason for the conflict could be a “problem” in the South China Sea. “I would like to see if we can find ways to solve it on the principle of freedom of the high seas. If this is not done, clashes cannot be avoided,” Kissinger stressed. At the same time, he noted that a possible conflict between the United States and China, given the current weapons, could threaten “the destruction of civilization.”
“Now the most important would be a dialogue between the two leaders, in which they would agree that they have the most dangerous means in the world and will conduct their policies in such a way as to reduce [вероятность] military conflict with their use,” Kissinger emphasized.
