The deadline for the transfer of the Rublev icon “Trinity” to the Russian Orthodox Church may be shifted due to the need to prepare optimal storage conditions for it. According to Interfax, this is the conclusion reached by the participants of the meeting held today at the Tretyakov Gallery.
Experts pointed out that the icon is not subject to extradition outside the Tretyakov Gallery on June 4 due to “a complex and unstable condition.” Currently, she is in the restoration workshop in the process of urgent restoration of the monument.
We will remind, earlier it was reported that President Vladimir Putin decided to transfer Rublev’s “Trinity” to the church. It was planned that the image would be exhibited in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior during the year, and then take a historical place in the Trinity Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra.
Meanwhile, recently the director of the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin Elizaveta Likhacheva said that the transfer of the “Trinity” to the Russian Orthodox Church carries serious risks for the icon. According to her, the icon may not survive. Likhacheva also emphasized that the icon “has never been presented as miraculous”, and the main thing in the “Trinity” is not religious, but art criticism.
