52 bills on various issues are pending in the National Assembly, including the reform related to the Code on Comprehensive Protection of Girls, Boys and Adolescents, the constitutional reform that enables the Armed Forces to cooperate with the National Police in the fight against organized crime. None of that invited the former MPs to enact legislation.

However, political processes were initiated against Patricio Carrillo, Diego Ordóñez, Bernardo Manzano, Darío Herrera, Esteban Bernal and others. There are a total of thirteen procedures awaiting resolution in the Supervisory Commission of the National Assembly.

On the other hand, some legislative commissions have provided that all public officials have publicly available information that appears on public digital platforms.

The judiciary did not avoid an undisguised desire to attack, as evidenced by the 70 appearances and 700 requests for information it requested from Chief State Attorney Diana Salazar. The members of the Judicial Council were called in almost the same way, last year alone there were almost 400 requests for information, they were presented with impeachments, and since they did not pass, a few months ago they submitted a new request for a trial.

The political trial of President Guillermo Lasso was for embezzlement, not a single piece of evidence was presented, but it was permeated with a shameful narrative of insults. They showed their dependence on power without shame.

Nor did they advance with amnesties in favor of Leonidas Iza and Ricardo Patiño. The first was prosecuted in October 2019 for kidnapping and terrorism, and the second for calling for combat resistance. And that is the central point of this text: authoritarianism as a form of government.

There are a total of thirteen lawsuits awaiting resolution in the Supervisory Commission…

The root of wars today is no longer ideologies themselves, as they were before the fall of the Berlin Wall, no, it’s not killing us anymore. The crisis, national and global, lies in the tension between democracy per se and this authoritarianism, of which we have several examples on the continent: from Daniel Ortega -in Nicaragua- to Nicolás Maduro -in Venezuela- and from there those like him, from the Left and the Right, it doesn’t matter .

The tactic is to promise progress for all, use the democratic path and seize their institutions, control the resources that, at this moment in the party, favor technology, and with it warfare, artificial intelligence and access to privileged information. . When it comes to resources, this authoritarian system of government does not stop at extracting minerals, destroying the planet or profiting from the illegal sale of drugs, taking the lives of our fellow man. They are mercenaries.

This government already has a deadline and I hope it is clear how it will leave its mark. For our part, I hope we are clear who are the authoritarian politicians who put a gun to our heads, literally and metaphorically, and who, like Calderón on May 24 on the slopes of Pichincha who defended freedom, continue to behave decent politicians and they will to be eternal patriots. We must fix our sights on them without allowing ourselves to be distracted by corrupt alliances that will use their entire arsenal to attract votes. (OR)
