“I think yes. Why not?” – quotes the publication of the words of a source in the Ministry of Defense of one of the European countries. The interlocutor answered the question whether Kyiv could receive these fighters by autumn.
As the newspaper notes, so far none of the European states is ready to start deliveries of F-16s to Ukraine. But Yuriy Sak, an adviser to the Ukrainian defense minister, argues that “the Netherlands could be the first country” to do so.
US President Joe Biden announced on May 21 at a press conference following the G-7 summit in Hiroshima that the West would begin training Ukrainian pilots to fly fourth-generation fighter jets, including the F-16. At the same time, Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan said that Washington will discuss with like-minded people in the coming months which states will transfer F-16 aircraft to Kyiv.
