The request made from the Pachakutik sector also includes former councilor Luis Verdesoto.
The Legislative Administration Council (CAL), this November 24, qualified the request for impeachment raised by Assemblyman Mario Ruiz Jácome (Pachakutik) against four of the five members of the National Electoral Council for alleged non-fulfillment of functions.
With that decision, the file will be passed on to the Audit Commission for processing. The lawsuit is brought against the directors Diana Atamaint, José Cabrera, Esthela Acero and Enrique Pita; ex-councilor Luis Verdesoto is also included.
They present a request for impeachment against four CNE advisers
The accusation, according to the file, refers to the fact that the CNE did not allow the inconsistencies presented in the 39,000 polls in the general elections of February 2021 to be verified.
It is indicated that article 148 of the Democracy Code determines that, when there is a claim from any candidate, the CNE will exhaust all possible means to verify that there are no inconsistencies. To avoid suspicions of fraud, the only means that exists is by opening the polls.
According to the proponent of the trial, Mario Ruiz, in the electoral process last February, all Ecuadorians were left with the doubt as to whether the presidential candidate for Pachakutik, Yaku Pérez, was subjected to electoral fraud.
A legislator member of the CAL, Darwin Pereira, indicated that the administrative body verified compliance with the requirements established in the law. (I)
