Since the beginning of 2023, the cost of container transportation from China to Russia has fallen by 30-35%, Kommersant writes, citing data from market participants.

According to the estimates of the transport company ModernWay, at the end of 2022 – beginning of 2023, the rates for the transportation of a 40-foot container from the main Chinese ports to Moscow amounted to $ 8-9 thousand. At the same time, in 2021 the cost of a similar transportation reached $ 12-13 thousand. By May 2023 tariffs fell to $6-6.5 thousand. Alfa Transit also reported a drop in prices to this level.

The logistics company Stalogistic clarified that the level of drop in rates depends on the location and shipping conditions. FM Logistic reported that in some areas and services, the decline amounted to more than $2.5 thousand since March.

The same situation has developed with deliveries by sea: rates have been declining since mid-February. According to Alfa Transit, now the cost of freight on the China-Vladivostok route has almost halved compared to winter.

Market participants attribute the drop in rates to a reduction in total shipments after the Chinese New Year, the launch of new services from Chinese ports to St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk, and the lifting of coronavirus restrictions in China.
