The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit, discussed EU support for Kiev, promising to hold a discussion of the prospects for the country’s accession to the EU at the end of the year. It is reported by Interfax.

“On the prospect of Ukraine’s accession to the EU, President Michel thanked President Zelensky for the ongoing judicial reforms and the fight against corruption, and reaffirmed his intention to bring this issue to the European Council before the end of the year,” Michel’s spokesman said.

He noted that it was about the multilateral assistance of the European Union to Ukraine. According to him, Michel spoke in favor of preparing a new multi-year macro-financial economic package for Ukraine after 2023. The head of the European Council also assured the Ukrainian president that military support for Kyiv is being strengthened “through the supply of ammunition and the creation of a coalition on fighter jets.”

Michel told Zelensky that the EU “fully supports the Ukraine peace plan initiative,” a spokesman for the head of the European Council said.
