Washington, helping Kiev militarily, monitors Moscow’s reaction and seeks to prevent an escalation that could lead to a third world war, said National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
According to TASS, Sullivan stressed that US President Joe Biden’s “basic attitude” is that the US authorities “intend to do everything possible to support Ukraine, which protects its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” and at the same time “act in such a way that to avoid a third world war.”
Sullivan recalled that Washington, when supplying weapons, requires compliance with the condition “according to which the United States will not facilitate or support Kyiv’s strikes on Russian territory.” He explained that this also applies to potential deliveries of F-16 fighter jets to Kyiv.
According to the Russian authorities, the supply of arms to Kyiv by the West, on the contrary, brings the development of the world conflict closer. On May 12, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev announced that a “full-scale hybrid war” was unleashed against Russia, which is expressed in the supply of “lethal weapons of all kinds”, the promotion of “terror” in the Russian border, “sabotage and political assassinations.” All this, in his opinion, can lead to “a new world war in which there will be no winners.”
