In Tbilisi, representatives of the radical opposition tonight went to a protest against the resumption of air traffic between Russia and Georgia. According to Interfax, the demonstrators gathered near the parliament building and said that the resumption of flights to Russia threatens Georgia with a refusal to grant Brussels the status of a candidate for joining the European Union.
Earlier, dozens of radicals gathered near the building of the Tbilisi International Airport to protest the resumption of air traffic. Six people were detained for violating public order.
In turn, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili expressed dissatisfaction with the resumption of air traffic between the two countries.
Recall that today the first passenger flight in four years took place from Russia to Georgia. It was carried out by Azimuth Airlines. The plane took off at 9:07 Moscow time and landed at 13:40 local time (12:40 Moscow time).
Let us add that earlier today there was a scuffle in the Georgian Parliament during the plenary session, the indirect reason was the resumption of direct flights with Russia. Footage of the incident was broadcast live on local television.
Thus, Giorgi Vashadze, a deputy from the opposition Strategy Agmashenebeli party, spoke negatively about the restoration of direct flights with Russia. When he returned to his place, Irakli Beraya, a representative of the Power of the People, made a critical remark about him. The dispute over air travel with Russia soon escalated into a fight.
