In the St. Petersburg art space mArs (Marsovo Pole, 3) on Thursday, May 25, a meeting with writer Nikita Eliseev “Ordinary Fascism” will take place. The event will be held as part of the “Kvartirnik” project. The start is at 19:00.

Translator Nikita Eliseev will talk about two very dear to him (and, as it turned out, not only to him) books translated by him: “The Story of a German” by Sebastian Hafner and “A Certain Hitler” by the same author. Of course, we will talk not only about these books, but also about their author, Sebastian Hafner (Raimund Pretzel) (1907-1989) – a German anti-fascist, political emigrant, the first German biographer of Churchill; about a writer who left a strikingly accurate description of the country’s slide into atrocity and an intellectual who turned out to be in this atrocity (“The Story of a German”), and in addition, left an equally accurate description of who led this process of bestiality (“Somebody Hitler. The Story of a Crime” ).

These two books have become bestsellers. Only one of them (The History of a German) came out a year after the author’s death, although it was written in 1938-1939. The translator of Sebastian Hafner, Nikita Eliseev, will tell about this and not only about this.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on TimePad or at the box office before the event.
