We are coming from the celebration of Mother’s Day. I just watched a short film by Iranian filmmaker Muhammad Kheradmandam that moved the whole world, it’s less than a minute long and it’s called Mother.
The author approaches walking down any street, kneels and draws with chalk on the floor. Keep shoes outside the perimeter of the design. On something we see later is a cloak, he draws flowers. Lines continue to be drawn on the ground, her white scarf fluttering in the wind. Simple, clear, powerful. He, moving on his knees on the rough surface, sits down, watches the sky and draws into the drawing, curled up in the fetal position. We discovered him in the lap of a woman: his mother.
Absolutely touching. Shocking.
Ecuador is our wing, many were born here, many others chose it and want its land to cover us when our body returns to the land that feeds us.
Ecuador is more our mother than our father, it shelters us, it protects us, we are happy when we return, we feel safe in its lap, in its environment, its food, its landscapes, its music, its mountains and its rivers, valleys and jungles , several deserts and diverse wetlands, people, cities, fields, sunsets, birds and snakes, flora and fauna, extreme climates. Its earthquakes and floods confront us with the ability to face dangers. But above all the wealth of culture, their different faces, some happy, others distrustful, submissive and rebellious, their languages and the slap of their shortcomings, their poor, their criminals, their malnourished, their brilliant minds. In it are many of those we love, our stories, our achievements and failures. All that and much more is our mother.
You have to agree and negotiate. In a good sense of the word. Find unexpected solutions…
That mother needs to be looked after and looked after. We must allow it to continue to be our protection, our shelter and comfort, our refuge.
We live in a state of political, social and economic uncertainty. Our mother, with all of us curled up in her lap, is suffering.
It is time for the politicians in whose hands lies so much of the future to keep it, heal it and let it be our pride and security.
You have to agree and negotiate. In a good sense of the word. Finding unexpected and effective solutions to recurring problems where individual interests conflict with the good of the whole. We are all ready to pitch in to find a path that works for the majority. But you have to spread that possibility. We will be ready to make the necessary sacrifices if the horizon attracts us like a magnet.
There should be large rooms with clear glass for private meeting meetings in the People’s Assembly and in Carondelet, so that everyone can see who is meeting with whom. There is no reason to hide when you want to improve the country and make it manageable. You should not watch who enters or exits. They should not be ashamed to look for paths that can be taken. You have to know when to say yes and when no is no.
And when you don’t have clear answers and you have to look for alternative ways, you simply have to work with everyone, with hope and joy. (OR)
