The head of the Turkish electoral committee announced that the second round of presidential elections in the country will be held on May 28. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the Anadolu agency.
According to the agency, 99.87% of the votes have been counted so far. The incumbent Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received 49.5%, his rival Kemal Kılıçdaroglu – 44.89%. It is they who will have to compete for the post of head of state in the second round of elections.
Anadolu also reports that the voter turnout in the elections in Turkey was 88.92%, and the turnout abroad was 52.69%.
Earlier it was reported that Erdogan, who is trying to achieve re-election as president of Turkey, won the vote in 51 of the country’s 81 provinces, as well as the vote among those living abroad. The president won in the provinces located in the central part of the country.
His rival Kılıçdaroglu was supported in the resort provinces on the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, as well as in the provinces and largest cities of the country – in Istanbul and in the capital Ankara. The oppositionist also won against the incumbent president in the southeast, bordering Syria, Iraq and Iran, where the Kurdish population is concentrated.
