The undercarriage of a Boeing 747-400 operated by Cargolux was torn off during landing at Luxembourg airport, reports Le Quotidien. The landing was an emergency, the crew requested it immediately after takeoff from the airport, as the landing gear was left unretracted after takeoff.

The incident happened on May 14th. After the aircraft landed, the runway was closed for clearing. The administration banned the landing of 11 flights, they were redirected to other airports. The departure of other flights was delayed, some of them were cancelled. According to flight-tracking service Flightradar24, we are talking about a plane that flew to Chicago.

The airline Cargolux specified that the plane took off from Luxembourg, but was forced to return to the airport for technical reasons. According to the air carrier, at the time of landing, “the right landing gear separated from the aircraft.”

After the plane made a “controlled stop”, it was handed over to the airport’s ground services. There were no injuries among passengers and crew members, as well as on the ground, the airline added.
