Oncologist Yulia Vakhabova named several groups of people who are especially prone to the development of cancer. According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, these are, in particular, the elderly, smokers and people with a genetic predisposition to oncology.

The doctor clarified that with age, a person’s immunity weakens, therefore, older people become more vulnerable. Therefore, it is especially important to monitor health after 50 years.

Vakhabova noted that smokers have a seven-fold increased risk of developing lung cancer due to the negative impact of this habit on the entire body.

In third place are those people who have a genetic predisposition to the development of cancer. There are mutations in certain genes that contribute to the formation of cancerous tumors of a certain type, they are inherited. According to the expert, of course, there is no 100% guarantee that if you have such a gene, you will definitely get cancer. However, the chances that this will happen are greatly increased.

In fourth place are people who come into contact with toxic or radioactive substances, in particular those who work in hazardous industries.

Closes the list of people with viral diseases such as: human papillomavirus (HPV), Epstein-Barr, hepatitis B and C. HPV can cause cervical cancer in women. In total, more than 600 genotypes of this virus are known to science. However, not all of them are considered oncogenic. The danger is represented by types 6, 11, 16 and 18. Epstein-Barr virus can contribute to the development of Burkitt’s lymphoma and nasopharyngeal cancer. But here again, there is no 100% guarantee that the carrier will definitely develop a malignant tumor. Hepatitis B and C can lead to liver cancer. Therefore, they need to be treated. Fortunately, today both of these viruses are completely curable.
