The commander of the 4th motorized rifle brigade, Colonel Vyacheslav Makarov, died during the fighting in the Donetsk People’s Republic. This was announced today by the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov.
According to the Ministry of Defense, Makarov, being at the forefront, personally led the battle. During the reflection of one of the enemy attacks, the brigade commander was seriously wounded and died during the evacuation from the battlefield.
He also announced the death of the deputy commander of the army corps for military-political work, Colonel Yevgeny Brovko. He led the actions of the personnel and died during the reflection of the attack, having received multiple shrapnel wounds.
The Ministry of Defense added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been trying to break through the defenses of Russian troops north and south of Artemovsk for 24 hours. The attempts were successfully repelled, “breakthroughs in the defense of the Russian troops were not allowed,” the report said.
Since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly awarded the title of Hero of Russia to military personnel, including posthumously.
