Eclipses are one of the most beautiful natural phenomena that exist, be it of the moon or the sun. When the Moon stands between the Earth and the Sun, the sunlight disappears, and it can be a partial or total eclipse in which darkness suddenly occurs, because the entire Sun is covered.
Likewise, when the Earth stands between the Sun and the Moon, especially for a full Moon, it loses its beautiful glow, being completely hidden by the shadow cast by the Earth, which prevents the Sun’s light from reflecting on it.
In the past, many civilizations considered eclipses to be divine manifestations, which is an inexplicable fact.
Ecuadorian politics represents a total eclipse, but not a temporary one, as happens in celestial phenomena, where an eclipse has a limited duration. In fact, a total solar eclipse stops shining between 2 and 3 minutes, and the eclipse can last about 8 minutes. The moonlight can last up to an hour. But it always recovers whether it is the light of the Sun or the glow of the Moon.
Ecuadorian politicians, especially the National Assembly, have achieved the record of establishing a permanent total eclipse. They stood between the light of the destiny of progress and the rest of Ecuadorian society, producing a total eclipse that left us without light, without breath and without hope.
With an unusual ability to generate hatred, revenge and cannibalism, instead of progressing with time, they managed to become more virulent, more incompetent and more indolent before the needs of the country.
The opposition has always been, and should be, but framed within parameters of dignity and lordship that have been lost.
Ecuadorian politics has been blackened, fallen. The opposition has always been, and should be, but framed within parameters of dignity and lordship that have been lost.
Long gone are the days when students went to the Assembly to listen to speeches and learn public speaking and good command of the language. Today, if he leaves, it is precisely to create a dictionary of grammatical errors, barbarism in the use of language and the destruction of quality oratory.
And if it happens in patterns, deep down it’s really scary. What prevails is everything that is holding us back from the dream of being a sustainable country and being able to develop.
Soon we will see the development of the political trial and we will be convinced once again of the poverty of arguments, the reason of unreason, the tyranny of voices, the miserable and hateful argumentation, and the total eclipse will show itself in its most brilliant phase, drowning in darkness the dream of being a society that progresses, which gives hope to the citizens that the country has a future.
Once again I remember that great gentleman, Dr. Raúl Clemente Huerta, with something I have already said in this column. When he congratulated me on my election to Parliament in 1988, he told me: “When you get to Parliament, dear Alberto, you will be very disappointed with the quality of many of your colleagues.” But console yourself and think that the next congress will be worse.
