Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived at the office of the Federal Chancellor for talks with German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz. It is reported by TASS.
Earlier, he held a meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Scholz reportedly received Zelensky with military honors, despite the fact that the latter is making a working visit, not a state visit, to Germany. After the talks, the Chancellor and the President of Ukraine will speak to the press.
During a visit to the Bellevue Palace – the residence of Frank-Walter Steinmeier – the President of Ukraine made an entry in the guest book. In it, he thanked Germany and its people for their “fantastic solidarity” with his country. “During the most difficult times in the modern history of Ukraine, Germany has shown itself to be a true friend and reliable ally, which strongly supports Ukraine in the struggle to defend freedom and democratic values,” Zelensky wrote. “Together we will win and restore peace in Europe,” he argued. “Thank you Germany!” Zelensky added, personally thanking Steinmeier for his support.
Increased security measures have been taken in the center of Berlin in connection with Zelensky’s visit. The entrances to the government quarter are blocked. Only cars of local residents are allowed there. Several police helicopters are visible in the sky above the capital. The order is provided by several hundred law enforcement officers.
It is expected that later during the day the President of Ukraine will be awarded the Charlemagne Prize in the city of Aachen in the west of Germany.
