Russian border guards began to cancel the visas of the Finns. According to the local newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, since May 11, several dozen Finnish citizens have not been allowed to cross the Russian border at the border checkpoints of Vaalimaa (on the Russian side – Torfyanovka) and Nuijamaa (Brusnichnoye).
Journalists point out that Finns usually go to Russia for gas stations and shops.
One of the residents of Kymenlaakso told the publication that the day before he went to the gas station and shopping in the direction of Vyborg. At the Russian border crossing, he was asked for documents and asked to wait. Then he was given forms on which the man had to write his home address, telephone number and destination in Russia. He also needed to clarify where he got the visa.
As a result, he was returned his passport, in which the visa was stamped “Cancelled” by the border department of the FSB in the Leningrad region.
According to the media, three more Finns were with him at the Vaalimaa border crossing at the same time. They also had to return back with an annulled visa.
At the same time, those with dual citizenship were able to cross the border.
At the Nuijamaa border checkpoint on Friday, Russian border guards did not cancel the Finn’s visa, but forced him to sign a document stating that he was denied entry to Russia, the newspaper writes.
HS adds that Finnish citizens usually traveled to Russia for gasoline or shopping on a business visa, since the Russian side issued single-entry visas to Finns for tourist trips.
