Allegations of Russian interference in the elections are unfair, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevluta Cavusoglu said in an interview with CNN TURK.
“Elections in Turkey have always been transparent. From the point of view of the country’s image, elections should be democratically transparent. It is unfair to this country that Kılıçdaroğlu says that [Россия вмешивается]”, – he said. Cavusoglu also added that “interfering in elections and wanting the victory of one of the parties are two different things.”
The presidential elections in Turkey will be held on May 14. The main candidates are Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu of the Republican People’s Party and the incumbent president and head of the Justice and Development Party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
On May 11, President Erdogan’s main opponent in the elections, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, accused Russia of plotting and publishing fakes. “If you want to continue our friendship after May 15, keep your hands off the Turkish state. We still stand for cooperation and friendship,” he said.
