Specialists of the Rosselkhoztsentr began to record the appearance of larvae of gregarious locust species in a number of regions of the Russian Federation. It is reported by Interfax.
According to the agency, as of May 10, 471.72 thousand hectares were examined, of which 82.27 thousand hectares were inhabited by the pest.
Thus, foci of larvae on a total area of up to 5 thousand hectares were found in the Levokumsky and Neftekumsky districts of the Stavropol Territory. Pest control is currently underway.
Moroccan locust was found in one of the regions of Kalmykia, but due to the onset of cold weather, further development stopped. In the Krasnodar Territory, the hatching of gregarious locust larvae has been noted in the Kanevsky region, in other regions their development is also hindered by cold weather.
Locust capsules were found in small numbers in the Limansky district of the Astrakhan region. There is also a pest in the Kochubey region of Dagestan.
In connection with this situation, Rosselkhoznadzor sent alarm messages to all regions of the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts. Phytomonitoring of locust pests will be continued.
