Russia requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on May 18 because of the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine. According to RBC, this was announced by Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the international organization.

Next week there will also be a meeting of the UN Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, which was requested by Western countries. On May 12, an informal meeting of the Security Council will be held on the topic of “persecution of the canonical UOC in Ukraine.”

The day before, CNN learned that the UK had provided Ukraine with several Storm Shadow cruise missiles with a range of more than 250 km. London received guarantees from Kyiv not to use these missiles against the territory deep in Russia, but they can be used to strike at the “sovereign territory of Ukraine.”

CNN notes that with the help of Storm Shadow, Kyiv will be able to attack objects in Russian-controlled territories, as well as in Crimea. British Defense Minister Ben Wallace confirmed that London would transfer these missiles to Ukraine. According to him, they will allow “to push back the Russian troops.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow has a negative attitude towards such Western assistance to Kyiv. “This will require an adequate response from our military, who, naturally, from a military point of view, will make appropriate decisions,” he said.
