The EU countries plan to spend 70 billion euros over the next three years to increase their defense capabilities. According to RBC with reference to the RTVE TV channel, this was announced by the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell during the European Conference on Defense and Security.

In early May, the European Commission proposed to allocate 500 million euros from the budget to increase the production of ammunition as part of support for Ukraine. It plans to increase production to 1 million shells per year, the EC wants to achieve this goal within 12 months. We are talking about the production of shells of the NATO caliber of 155 mm and shells of the “Soviet” caliber of 152 mm, said European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton.
In addition, the Council of the European Union approved the allocation of 1 billion euros for the purchase of artillery shells and missiles for the Ukrainian army. The amount will be sent from the European Peace Fund. The total cost of EU military support to Ukraine under this fund will reach 5.6 billion euros.
