Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili believes that the abolition of the visa regime for Georgian citizens by the Russian leadership and the resumption of air traffic between the two countries is unacceptable today. According to Interfax, Zurabishvili wrote about this on the social network.
“The resumption of direct flights with Georgia and the abolition of the visa regime for Georgian citizens is unacceptable while Russia continues its aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of our territories,” Zurabishvili said.
So far, representatives of the Georgian government have not commented on Russia’s decision on the visa regime and air travel with Georgia.
As reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on lifting the ban on air travel from Russia to Georgia, as well as a decree on the abolition of the visa regime for Georgian citizens.
After the decree is issued, Russian airlines will fly from Moscow to Tbilisi and back seven times a week, a representative of the Russian Ministry of Transport told Interfax.
Air communication between the Russian Federation and Georgia was interrupted in July 2019 after the issuance of the relevant decree of the Russian President.
