The director from Łódź, Stanis³aw Lenartowicz, is dead. He created the Polish version of “Sesame Street”

Stanis³aw Lenartowicz is dead. He was a director, animator and screenwriter associated with Łódź studios for years. The artist was 83 years old.

The death of Stanisław Lenartowicz was announced in social media, among others, by the Łódź Film Environment and the Stopklatka Animation Studio. “The best man in the world” – we read about the creator in the entry Stopklatka, whose name was invented by the late filmmaker. Lenartowicz’s farewell, according to the information provided by the portal kulturalia.lca.pl, will take place on May 12, 2023 at 11:15 at the Roman-Catholic Cemetery of St. Anthony at ul. Solec 11 in Lodz.

Lenartowicz has been interested in drawing since he was a child. He went to the High School of Art Techniques, where he practiced his technique in the Film Graphics class. Then he graduated from the Directing Department of the National Film, Television and Theater School. After graduating from high school, he went to the famous Studio Małe Filmowych Se-Ma-For in Łódź.

In the years 1969-2008, the artist made almost 50 films. Among them was “Counterpoint”, “Portrait”, “As in a fairy tale” or “Breakfast on the Grass”. He was also responsible for the animation for about a hundred episodes of the Polish version of “Sesame Street”. Although the artist was not entirely satisfied with the work on the project, he proudly said that the creators managed to meet the requirements set by the Americans regarding the educational format.

Lenartowicz also won many awards. In 1988, he received the Second Degree Award of the Minister of Culture and Art for lifetime artistic achievement in the field of animated film, in 2008 he was awarded the “Gloria Artis – Zasłużony Kulturze” Gold Medal, and eight years later he received the Polish Filmmakers Association Award for outstanding artistic achievements.

The creator worked for many years on new techniques of special effects, which he was passionate about. He shared a wealth of knowledge during film workshops for children and teenagers, which he conducted in Poznań, Dresden and Legnica. From the late 1960s, he was active in the Polish Filmmakers Association and significantly contributed to the recognition of animation as an art. He died on May 7, 2023.
