The costs of events related to the coronation of the British King Charles III are estimated at 50-100 million pounds ($63-125 million). This was reported by Interfax with reference to Western media.
According to CNBC, in today’s prices, the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953 cost the British treasury 50 million pounds, the coronation of George VI in 1937 – 24.8 million pounds.
The coronation of Charles III will take place on Saturday, May 6, and will bring together about 2 thousand VIP guests – four times less than the coronation of Elizabeth II. The festivities will last for three days, including a closed Monday, and will include a concert featuring the stars.
The monarch himself reportedly wanted a relatively short and inexpensive ceremony. His coronation will last about an hour, while it took Elizabeth II several hours.
British bars, restaurants and hotels will earn £350m from the coronation, according to industry organization UK Hospitality.
