Georgia this year will not take part in the multinational military exercises of allies and NATO partners Defender 23, which are led by the US European Command. The corresponding statement was published by the Ministry of Defense of the country in social networks.
The ministry said in a statement that the Georgian Defense Forces “constantly conduct international exercises to improve combat capability” and take part in such exercises. In particular, since the beginning of the year, they, together with NATO countries, have taken part in four such maneuvers in Turkey, Slovakia, Germany and the Netherlands. Until the end of the year, the Georgian military will be involved in several more exercises in Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy and other countries, the department notes.
Regarding the Defender 23 exercise, the ministry said it “has taken into account the goals and objectives of the Georgian Defense Forces and the recommendations of the country’s strategic partners.” The authorities decided not to participate in them, but “to devote more efforts and resources to such exercises, which place more emphasis on increasing combat readiness, interoperability with NATO member and partner countries, the exchange of experience and the development of professional skills.”
