Doctor of Medical Sciences, nutritionist Margarita Koroleva spoke about the beneficial properties of herring. However, she warned not to eat herring too often because of its high content of sodium chloride, Sputnik reports.

According to the expert, the body absorbs protein from fish dishes well, so she advised including salted herring in the diet, which contains a large amount of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamins A, D, E, K. This product is especially useful for overweight people and lack of sleep.

However, including herring in the daily diet is not worth it, because it contains an unhealthy amount of salt, the doctor continued. With certain diseases, it is better to refuse this product altogether, the Queen added. This primarily applies to people with hypertension and kidney disease.

“The herring that is sold in stores, as a rule, is salty enough to be contraindicated for these categories of patients. But you can eat it once or twice a week in the morning. In fact, freshly frozen herring is the best choice. You will get all the benefits, including omega-3 fatty acids, without harming your health with excess salt, ”explained Margarita Koroleva.

The nutritionist explained what to look for when choosing herring in the store. “When buying fish, you can ask for documents from which it will be clear when the fish was caught and in which region. You should also look at the fish itself, the condition of the scales and eyes: they should not be cloudy. In addition, there should be no mucus on the surface of the fish, ”the doctor added.
