The political trial against three members of the Judicial Council (CJ) and the former president of the body, María del Carmen Maldonado, has been appearing for four days and there are still five more days left for the witnesses requested in this case to give their version.
The interpellation request was presented by legislator Viviana Veloz, from the Unión por la Esperanza (UNES) bloc, for alleged breach of duties. The appearances will conclude this Friday and then there will be five days for the preparation of the report that will recommend the trial or the file of the process.

María Josefa Coronel, provincial director of the Council of the Judiciary, excused herself from appearing, stating that she has not participated in the process of evaluating judges, so she is not related to the case and does not have relevant information. But the president of the table, Fernando Villavicencio, did not accept the excuse and ordered that she be summoned again.
This August 8, within the process of substantiation of evidence, at the request of legislator Roberto Cuero (UNES), Juan Paredes, Criminal Judge of the Provincial Court of Guayas, gave his testimony, who complained about the administrative sanctioning process followed against him. since March 21, 2022, for alleged manifest negligence, since he assured that the guarantees of due process and the right to be tried by an impartial judge were violated.
He exhibited a video of an interview in which the director of the Guayas Judiciary Council, María Josefa Coronel, stated that she would do everything possible to sanction Paredes.
He reported that on March 21, César Pérez Barriga, one of the directors of Diario EL UNIVERSO, under the auspices of Hernán Pérez, filed a complaint indicating that Juan Paredes had committed manifest negligence, for which he accompanies the ruling that issued by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on November 24, 2021.
That complaint was filed, he added, before María Josefa Coronel, in charge of the disciplinary direction of the Guayas Judiciary Council, which had no impartiality regarding the processing of the complaint.
The director of Legal Advice of the Council of the Judiciary, Henry Arcos, also appeared to speak about the evaluation process of judges and associate judges. He affirmed that the evaluation was made by the Council with a support commission.
On the other hand, the former deputy judge of the National Court of Justice Roger Cusme said that the evaluation had no constitutional or legal basis, that it was an invention and arbitrariness committed by the members of the Judicial Council.
For this Tuesday, August 9, the session will be reinstated at 08:00, and according to the president of the Commission, the victims of emblematic cases of the National Court of Justice such as Carlos Figueroa and Gerardo Portillo will do so, journalists are also invited Christian Zurita, Juan Carlos Calderón and César Ricaurte.
