The increase in measles infection in Russia since the end of 2022 is associated with a period of cyclical disease due to the accumulation of unvaccinated people. According to TASS, this was stated in Rospotrebnadzor.

“The increase in the incidence is associated with a period of cyclicity, traditional for measles, due to the gradual accumulation of a non-immune population,” the department said, noting that unvaccinated Russians and people who arrived in Russia from neighboring countries are included in the epidemic process.

About 10% of detected cases are among migrants, the Rospotrebnadzor noted.

In early March, Rospotrebnadzor recorded an increase in measles infection in the Moscow, Leningrad, Samara, Novosibirsk regions, Altai and Krasnodar regions and a number of other regions. Cases also began to be detected in educational institutions. Students of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas. THEM. Gubkin was sent on a week-long vacation in Moscow due to one case of illness. The Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) and the Moscow Polytechnic University have transferred their students to distance learning.

In April, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said that measles had already been registered in 44 regions, but that no systemic restrictions were “absolutely required” thanks to the measures taken.
