Finland and Canada announce new military aid packages to Ukraine

The Finnish authorities have agreed to send Kyiv a new, 15th in a row, package of military assistance in the amount of 78 million euros, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic reports.

According to the agency, the assistance package includes various types of weapons to meet the needs of the European training mission for Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine, EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine) to train 30 thousand Ukrainian soldiers, including basic and specialized training of military personnel. The specific content of the package, as well as the timing and methods of its delivery are not specified for security reasons. The total cost of assistance provided by Helsinki to Kyiv is estimated at 990 million euros.

Also, the supply of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $28.9 million was announced by Canadian Minister of National Defense Anita Anand on the eve of the next meeting of the contact group on Ukraine, which is taking place in Ramstein. It is noted that the assistance package will include, in particular, 40 sniper rifles and 16 radios.

According to the Canadian government, since the beginning of 2022, Ottawa’s assistance to Kyiv in various forms has amounted to about 5 billion Canadian dollars ($3.74 billion). It included 155 mm M777 howitzers, anti-tank grenade launchers, hand grenades and ammunition. Also, the Canadian government announced that it will purchase NASAMS air defense systems from the United States for the needs of Ukraine for 406 million Canadian dollars (approximately $303 million).
