The Constitutional Court of Ecuador is probably the best thing left to us by the Lenín Moreno regime. And it was the institution that stepped forward to resolve major political and/or social tangles.
From this column, we questioned and praised some of his decisions; but whether we agree with them or not, it is by far the most respectable institution the country has left. And we would wrongly conclude that if we don’t like a decision or it doesn’t agree with our interests, then this Court is useless, politicized or worse, it would succumb to the man with the briefcase.
Five of the twelve pieces of evidence presented by the petitioners for the impeachment of President Guillermo Lasso do not respect the Constitutional Court’s ruling
I am saying this in connection with the recent resolution on the impeachment of the President of the Republic, who respectfully expressed himself before the negative verdict, which is a position that deserves recognition.
Because the voices of some educated and other fanatics have already been heard, who want to find the cat’s fifth leg. Wanting to throw garbage at the Court, not realizing that inferring political pressure or corruption on the six judges who accepted the impeachment, is the same for the three judges who voted against, only from the opposite side.
integral dream
There is no doubt that politics is nothing more than a reflection of society; a society accustomed, with honorable exceptions, to bad practice, impunity and extreme relativity in all kinds of values and principles, which for the same reason cannot demand very different politicians or public officials.
(…) we hope that, regardless of the outcome of the impeachment trial, democratic institutions are respected…
A society in which certain media, given templates, give space to every on-duty political cheerleader, disguised as a “journalist” or “political commentator”, to activate from the space that should be used to inform objective citizens. Media in which the contents are structured, not based on editorial policies or manuals of journalistic technique, but on the political communication strategy of a large political advertiser, whether national or sectoral.
Fernando Villavicencio exposed before the Constitutional Court the “obstacles and acts of bad faith” of the members of the assembly that prevent progress in the impeachment process of Guillermo Lasso
A society in which there are no former powerful trade unions, which came forward to demand better standards from politicians, which were the protagonists of heroic deeds, and which today are reduced, in some cases, to traveling suitcases and courtiers, who clap like seals to the government of the day and others, real carpets of anarchist leaders with a totalitarian political program.
Ecuador, where almost everything is achieved by the left and where the ability to achieve goals often depends on a checkbook or “contacts”, cannot have the nerve to demand Swiss politicians or civil servants with British standards, and even less is this Constitutional Court trying, which annoys the right as well. and the left, both the ruling party and the opposition, to be highlighted as a good sign that it is doing its job.
From this column we hope, whatever the outcome of the impeachment trial, respect for democratic institutions and above all respect for the actions of this Constitutional Court which protects it, to the will and displeasure of a few. (OR)
